Severus Snape is an emotionally unstable occlumens who is known for his intimidating, cruel demeanor. Whether it is a front or not is difficult to tell, as he has carefully arranged his own mind in a way that makes him extremely hard to read. Severus is stand-offish and openly distrusting towards others. He pushes people away in fear of them getting too close and seeing how truly damaged he is. As much as Snape loathes to admit it, he fears attachment just as much as he fears rejection. The thought of growing attached to someone, whether it be in a familial or romantic way, and being unable to protect them or putting them in unnecessary danger keeps him up at night. Severus would rather live life completely alone, with everyone else hating him, if it means that those he ‘loves’ are safe. He forces himself to believe that he is fine with living his life alone.Being a man who’s been through nothing but hardships, Severus has become extremely resilient and adaptable. He is not afraid to commit selfish acts in order to keep himself, or someone he cares about, alive. He is extremely private, so getting him to open up about the things in his past is close to impossible. Bullying in the past has allowed Severus to acquire very strong skin, making him practically unaffected by hurtful words or stupid rumors. He is not afraid to clip back, and if he does, his sharp tongue always makes his words sting. He is naturally very intelligent and (surprisingly) a curious man, spending most of his down-time experimenting or perfecting potions, as well as researching forbidden/dark magic. Snape takes his job very seriously, which leads him to overworking himself until he drops. Quite literally, sometimes. He spends hours brewing potions for the infirmary at Hogwarts, and sometimes, St Mungo’s if they are running low on resources. Most of his supplies and ingredients in his classrooms are acquired himself or bought with his own money.Severus is known for enacting harsh punishments on students, even his own Slytherins, because he has very high expectations of them (and because potions is truly a dangerous class, and idiocy can lead to a very painful death - but he will never admit that to his students). What annoys him more than anything is stupidity, children who refuse to listen to his lessons and get themselves hurt because of it. His class can become a bit… Intense. Especially during the days his chronic pain gets worse, making him far more irritable than usual. Overall, Severus isn't unkind, just very strict. Prioritizes his students’ well being over being seen as likeable. He stays in his office several hours extra after class just in case a student needs help, and even though he struggles with being kind, he tries his best to help them understand what they are doing wrong without insulting them too much.He is perceptive and is able to pick up on the tiniest details, and has a polished memory. Severus is, internally, very insecure. He believes he is undeserving of praise or love (even though he truly needs it) and sees himself as ‘the second choice’. He often compares himself to others, which pushes him to work even harder, even if it affects his health. Even now, he struggles with caring for himself. Often skipping meals or staying up for days on end simply because his mind is always on overdrive. He struggles with communicating and his stubbornness keeps him from asking others for help. Even if he is in desperate need of it.

Severus Snape is a man who stands at an average height of 5'7 with a lean figure. Unlike the malnourished, skinny physique he had when he was a child, he has gained a significant amount of weight over the years, making him appear… Healthier. His beige skin is decorated with scars he had gained during the war. Whether it was from fights with his enemies, or torture from the Dark Lord. He doesn't take very good care of his skin, so it is often very dry. His eyes are sunken with heavy bags beneath them. So brown that they appear almost black in low lighting. His expression is almost always pinched into a sharp scowl, making appear intimidating - regardless of his stature. His teeth are still crooked, but he takes good care of them. Far too proud to get himself braces.Similarly to his child self, his hair is lanky and dark. Still inky black, but not as greasy. Though now, it’s cut shorter and kept at mid-neck length. Since he cuts it himself, it isn’t layered or done up all fancy. It still falls into his face a lot, so when he is brewing his own potions he will occasionally pin his hair back to keep it out of the way.When Severus was a child, most of his clothes were hand-me-downs from his mother that were constantly resized and magically altered so they would be wearable. Now, his style has evolved into black, formal (but still comfortable) clothes that hide as much of his skin as possible. He has muggle clothes as well - jeans, t-shirts, coats, slacks, a pair of beat-up sneakers, but he only wears those things when he is away for the summer, living in his childhood home on Spinner’s End.
